Does Remco Evenepoel still have a rival? Since last weekend, the red jersey has given signs of weakness, seeing its 2’41” mattress almost halved compared to Primoz Roglic (1’26”). But the Slovenian, who fell heavily in the middle of a sprint on Tuesday, was forced to retire the next day, before the start of the 17th stage, Wednesday, September 7. The slopes leading to the monastery of Tentudia (4.1 km at 7.5%) will therefore be climbed without it.
The direct consequence is to give a breath of fresh air to Remco Evenepoel, who now has a 2’01” lead over his new runner-up, Enric Mas, while 3rd place on the podium is occupied by another Spaniard, Juan Ayuso Pesquera, at 4’49”. Are they able to make the Belgian doubt?
