Towards more restrictions on private jet flights? The Minister Delegate for Transport, Clément Beaune, said he was in favor of regulating these flights, in an interview with Parisian, Saturday August 20. “I think we have to act and regulate private jet flights. This is becoming the symbol of a two-speed effort”said the minister to the newspaper.

According to the minister’s entourage with France Télévisions, “it is a reflection at this stage”.Business aviation is an important economic activity in France, it is not a question of banning it and the most effective is to define rules at European level.

Several options are being studied, according to this same source: possible commitments made by the companies owning these private planes, or obligations of transparency, regular publications by the owners of jets. The minister’s entourage also talks to France Télévisions about measures on a European scale, such as the carbon quota system for example.

“Without falling into demagoguery, nor into ad hominem hunting, there are a certain number of behaviors that no longer pass”, argues Clément Beaune with the Parisian. “There are urgent reasons, economic imperatives, but it cannot be a mode of individual travel for comfort, while the general mobilization initiated by the president requires everyone to make an effort.”

This summer, especially on social networks, pressure has mounted on celebrities, politicians and business leaders to limit their carbon-intensive private jet travel.
