Between 10 and 20 centimeters of snow could fall in the metropolis mid-week, which could slow down operations.

Montrealers were eager for this big cleanup to begin while many streets were still littered with trash when TVA Nouvelles aired on Tuesday.

“It’s very dirty,” comments a passerby. Unfortunately, we are a people who defile a lot.”

“You see vermin walking in the street because there is waste everywhere,” adds a resident. Sometimes we have to go out with our brooms to clean.”

“I think the City is doing what it can with its means, but everyone must do their part too,” adds a citizen.

The City explains that certain cleaning equipment is used in winter for snow removal operations, which means that it must find the right time to swap shovels for brooms, while keeping in mind that the month of April is still conducive to snow showers.

The City of Montreal’s spring cleaning operation will last six weeks and is expected to cost approximately $50 million.
