Former columnist Claude Villeneuve was chosen to lead the elected officials of Team Marie-Josée Savard at Quebec City Hall in the face of the formation of Bruno Marchand. Open to collaboration, it does not however exclude participation in the city’s executive committee.
Before being a columnist at Journal of QuebecMr. Villeneuve was notably part of Pauline Marois’ team when she was Prime Minister. He was elected Sunday in the district of Lairet.
In front of the media gathered on the forecourt of the town hall, he extended his hand to the strong and proud Quebec party and to its leader Bruno Marchand and was open to different forms of collaboration. The presence of only six elected members of the new mayor’s team necessarily forces alliances to form the executive committee. Team Marie-Josée Savard, for its part, had 10 councilors elected.
Mme Savard, who was absent when the announcement was made, broke the silence on social media on Tuesday.
“Today, I can say that I am proud to have built the team of ten elected officials who will sit at City Hall. The official opposition will be made up of exceptional people who are there for the right reasons, ”she wrote. “I fully support the new opposition leader, Claude Villeneuve, chosen by his colleagues,” she continued before thanking her team and her family for their support.
Everything suggests that Mme Savard intends to quit politics. Mr. Villeneuve also indicated in Tuesday’s announcement that his party was going to change its name.
