Classic John Deere | Brendon Todd takes the lead with a shot

(Silvis) Brendon Todd struggled to get par at 18e hole, but he stalled a 12-foot putt and took the lead with a stroke after three rounds at the John Deere Classic.

Todd returned 66 (minus-5) despite windy conditions and finds himself at minus-16 after 54 holes at TPC Deere Run.

The three-time PGA Tour winner sent his tee shot into an alley pit at 18e. He must have hit the ball with one foot in the bunker and the other much higher up the grass. He advanced 65 yards, setting the stage for a 105-yard approach.

“It allowed me to finish the round bogey-free and in the lead,” Todd said. You always want to be the guy other people are chasing. »

Todd had an eagle on the second hole, a par-5, and birdies on the 13e15e and 16e holes. He hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since back-to-back triumphs in Bermuda and Mexico in November 2019.

Alex Smalley (62), Denny McCarthy (66) and Adam Schenk (67) tied for second at 15 under.

“It was pretty windy,” McCarthy said. I hit several good shots early in the day, but missed a few short putts. I had to compensate with other good cannon shots. »

Canadian Adam Svensson completed his round in 67 shots to tie for 16e rank at minus-11.
