Clashes erupted on the evening of Wednesday April 6 in Marseille between Greek supporters of the PAOK Salonika football club – which faces Olympique de Marseille on Thursday – and the police, announces the Bouches-du police headquarters. -Rhone, in a press release.
“Greek supporters arrived in Marseille this evening in an identifiable group, therefore not respecting the prohibition order issued by the police chief and the arrangements agreed with the PAOK club”explains the prefecture.

These supporters were followed by a group of Olympique de Marseille supporters from the Old Port to their hotel located near the Porte d’Aix. “The staff of the departmental public security department intervened to avoid a clash between supporters, using tear gas canisters”adds the prefecture.
CRS were then deployed in support. “Some Greek supporters tried to leave the hotel to fight it out and were trapped inside, where they committed damage”, she continues. The Marseille supporters, meanwhile, were dispersed and returned to the Old Port.
Wednesday at 9:45 p.m., the Greek supporters are blocked in their hotel by the police force.
