About to present the 2025 budget, Michel Barnier is far from satisfying everyone. Starting with its main support in the Assembly, the presidential Renaissance party.
Between Michel Barnier and the lieutenants of the former majority, the unease is palpable. On the morning of Thursday October 3, Gérald Darmanin was very offensive on franceinfo. “In Parliament, I am free. (…) For the moment, the budget as it is announced seems unacceptable to me“, recalled the deputy Together for the Republic of the North. Already on Tuesday, the general policy speech was the scene of a first pass of arms between Michel Barnier and Gabriel Attal.
“I will be very attentive to your proposals (…) to deal with a deficit that I found when I arrived”notably launched Michel Barnier to the former Prime Minister. Michel Barnier then responded to a pro-independence MP on the subject of New Caledonia, after having refused to do so to a Macronist MP on the same subject. The government spokesperson, Maud Oregon, tries to put out the fire, and evokes a “break-in time“.
To make his government last, Michel Barnier must deal with his former majority. In the Assembly, the presidential camp brings together 164 deputies, while the Republicans have only 47.
