With the impact of the Omicron variant and Covid-19 contaminations, the return to school on Monday January 3 was special. Less crowded streets, deserted restaurants… Cities have slowed down with the return of teleworking.
Empty streets, a business district less frequented than usual, empty parking lots… With the return of teleworking at least three days a week, many employees stayed at home on Monday, January 3. In the metro trains, no jostling, just like in the shops. “There are fewer people, fewer customers… Frankly, it’s almost dead”, reports a shopkeeper.
And on the roads of Île-de-France, no traffic jam problem. “It’s run good”, comments a motorist. In Lyon transport (Rhône-Alpes) also, there are no crowds. “For a day back to school, it is true that there are fewer people”, observes the passenger of a bus. In the restaurants of Calais (Pas-de-Calais), the clientele is sorely lacking: teleworking has emptied the room, but restaurant owners had anticipated this problem by reducing their purchases.
