In order to limit the increase in mutual insurance prices, certain municipalities offer complementary health insurance at attractive prices for their citizens.

For seven months, Mérignac (Gironde) has set up a municipal mutual fund. In this town of 70,000 inhabitants, 1,000 people would not have complementary health insurance due to lack of sufficient resources. They are often young or elderly people. This mutual fund is open to all residents of Mérignac and 400 people have already joined. “The mutual offers the city’s residents a contract at negotiated rates, which was discussed between the town hall teams and the mutual teams.”explains Ghislaine Bouvier, deputy mayor (PS) for health, town of Mérignac.

Significant savings for residents

Prices would be 30% lower on average. In Saint-Laurent-du-Var (Alpes-Maritimes), a man made significant savings, for identical guarantees. “There is a difference of 70 euros, so it is not negligible“, he indicates. In France, 5% of the population is not covered by complementary health insurance.
