This text is part of the special section C’est l’été
Don’t want to lock yourself in a museum on sunny days? Opt for one of the many visual arts tours offered by our regions, which allow you to discover artists from here and elsewhere all summer long, most of the time outdoors. Some open the doors of their studio to us, others work the material directly on the land that hosts them, still others present unpublished works… Overview of six circuits to take between now and the end of the holidays.
Beauce Art: the International of sculpture (Chaudière-Appalaches)
For three weeks, this symposium will take place under the theme “Sculpting the wind: statures and figures”. It is in the town of Saint-Georges, in Beauce, that you can admire the work of 10 international sculptors selected from more than 200 applications. They come from Japan, Slovenia, Spain, Belgium, Germany… On site, the guest artists will work in stone and metal to create an original work which will then be exhibited in the city of welcome.
9e edition, until June 11
Unusual passages (National Capital)
It is under the sign of the contrast of scales that the programming of this 10e edition of Passages insolites takes place. Forty artists, including six Aboriginals, are signing the works on the program this year, which will be confined to the Petit-Champlain, Place-Royale and Old Port neighborhoods to allow visitors to capture the entire route without having to travel as much as in previous editions. Through the streets of Quebec, tourists and residents of the city are thus invited to discover works, some huge, like the installation of the Franco-Swiss artist Felice Varini, and others tiny, like the miniature interventions of the collective Swedish Anonymous. In addition to the outdoor circuit, performances, indoor exhibitions and several other events, including artistic encounters, will be presented. A retrospective tour paying homage to works from previous editions is also planned.
10e edition, from June 22 to October 9
Circuit des arts Memphrémagog (Estrie)
For almost 30 years now, the Circuit des arts Memphrémagog has been showcasing the work of artists from the region. In total, nearly 40 creators will welcome the public, directly in their studio or in the heart of exhibition sites spread from Magog to Eastman via Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton. The materials worked are numerous: blown glass, stained glass, paint, jewellery, ceramics, pottery, paper… The circuit begins with a group exhibition presented at the Center d’arts visuels de Magog. Then, we invite you to hit the road!
29e edition, from 1er to July 9
Arts Route (Laurentians)
This year, the Route des arts invites you to discover its twenty artists and craftsmen in two stages. First, the Argenteuil Art Center in Lachute invites you to the exhibition of the Collectif Route des arts, until June 18th. Then, we suggest that the public plan their own cultural circuit by downloading the adapted mobile application allowing them to geolocate the establishments participating in the Circuit des ateliers, which will be held from July 15.
24e edition, until June 18, then from July 15 to 23
International photography meetings in Gaspésie
This year, the Meetings revolve around the theme “ Of the life-threatening unpredictability of the moose”. Twelve municipalities, towns and parks in the region will thus host photographs by artists from here and elsewhere through some fifteen exhibitions and installations, mostly outdoors. At the end of August, the event will go on tour to offer public meetings with artists who will deal with creation. There will also be guided tours.
14e edition, from July 15 to September 30
International Symposium of Contemporary Art of Baie-Saint-Paul (National Capital)
The now classic Baie-Saint-Paul Symposium focuses its 41e edition on the theme “Figures: Who is “I”? Who is “we”? and invites 13 Canadian and international artists (New Zealand, Democratic Republic of Congo, United States) to reflect on it. The art forms explored are numerous: we speak in particular of painting, photography, video, sculpture, installation and textiles. For a second year in a row, artist Bertrand Carrière will set up his studio at Domaine Forget in Charlevoix and will open its doors to the public. Several events are organized on the sidelines of the Symposium, including conferences, outdoor screenings, a participatory installation and activities for families.
41e edition, from July 28 to August 27
