(Toronto) Cineplex posted a profit for its third quarter on Thursday, compared with a loss for the same period last year, as its revenues and attendance at its theaters both increased by more than 30%.

The movie theater chain earned a profit of 30.9 million, or 43 cents per share, for the quarter ended Sept. 30.
This result compared with a loss of 33.6 million, or 53 cents per share, for the same period last year.
Revenues totaled 339.8 million, compared with 250.4 million a year earlier. Attendance by moviegoers during the quarter increased by 34% compared to last year.
Box office revenues reached 70% of their level in the third quarter of 2019, i.e. before the pandemic.
Box office revenue per customer was $11.25 in the most recent quarter, down from $11.38 last year. Foodservice revenue per customer was $8.35, down from $8.58 in the same quarter last year.
