“The Williams method” comes out to cinema Wednesday December 1st. This biopic takes a behind-the-scenes look at the rise of female tennis players Venus and Serena Williams and the decisive role of their father played by Will Smith.
This is the true story of two tennis legends. Richard Williams is the ubiquitous father of Venus and Serena Williams. He decides their fate in tennis before they are born. “He went to see his wife to tell her that he was to have two children who would become number one and two in world tennis”, says Will Smith, who plays the role of the father in The Williams method, in theaters Wednesday December 1st.
His method is intensive training in all weathers, then breaking away from traditional tennis codes and doing everything to support his daughters. To better understand their role, the actresses learned to play tennis. They were advised by the Williams sisters who followed the production closely. The stars consider the result close to reality. Seven Grand Slam victories for Venus and 23 for Serena make them icons of world tennis, as Richard Williams’ plan envisioned.
