(Cincinnati) Czech Petra Kvitova, 28e world, took the best Thursday on the world N.5 Ons Jabeur, beaten 6-1, 4-6, 6-0, to qualify for the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati.

The Tunisian, finalist of the last Wimbledon, had already suffered in the previous round against the American Catherine McNally, 179e world, having to save three match points to finally win in three sets and nearly 2h30 of play.
But this time, eleven days before the start of the United States Open (August 29-September 11), she could not come out against Kvitova.
Easily beaten in the first round, the Tunisian had nevertheless managed to pick up a set everywhere, taking advantage of a small physical drop from the Czech in the second round.
But in the decisive round, committing too many faults (30 over the whole match), Jabeur was quickly trailed 5-0 by the former world No.2. And even if she still managed to save two match points, the third was fatal this time.
To try to reach the last four, Kvitova, former winner of Wimbledon (2011, 2014), will face the winner of the match between Croatian Ajla Tomljanović and Russian Veronika Kudermetova.
