La Ciivise has collected the testimonies of 27,000 people who are victims of incest. The commission recommends public policies so that these acts are no longer ignored.
In two years, 27,000 people have confided in Ciivise about the sexual violence they suffered during their childhood. Online, by telephone or during public meetings, particularly in Paris. The Independent Commission on Incest and Sexual Violence against Children collects the voices of victims and recommends public policies. According to her, 160,000 children are affected by this scourge each year.
Few convictions
Very often, this violence goes unnoticed. The perpetrators are rarely convicted by the courts. “Only 3% of complaints for rape of a minor result in contamination of the accused. (…) The act of the aggressor is annihilation”, underlines Edouard Durand, the co-president of Ciivise. The Ciivise’s mandate ends in November, but its work will not be finished yet, according to the co-president. Several personalities who are victims of incest have already called for its maintenance. An online petition has collected 17,000 signatures.
