Not far from one in two people who have contracted the Omicron variant will develop symptoms of long COVID, according to a study by the CHUS Research Center (CRCHUS). This is the first study in Canada to look specifically at the prevalence of post-COVID-19 symptoms associated with this variant that wreaked havoc earlier this year.
Of the 290 Estriens who took part in the research, 137 declared symptoms more than a month after the infection, thus reflecting a rate of 47.2%. All of these people were designated as having been victims of the Omicron variant, because the proportion of COVID cases that were due to this variant at the time of the study (December 2021 to April 2022) exceeded 85%.
