An infant under two months of age died of COVID-19 on Thursday, the CHU Sainte-Justine announced.
This infant is the very first child under the age of 10 to succumb to COVID-19 in Quebec.
The child was healthy from birth. He was admitted to intensive care “recently” after contracting the virus, said the hospital center in a press release.
The CHU Sainte-Justine reminds that babies are more at risk of developing complications related to COVID-19. The hospital offers its condolences to the family, and will not release further details “due to the highly confidential aspects” of the case.
“We cannot remain indifferent to this news. It is a reminder of the importance of protecting oneself and of protecting others, more than ever… ”, reacted the College of physicians of Quebec, in a publication on Twitter.
