[Chronique] Crush and rage on the Croisette

Favorites: Respecting Scorsese

Martin Scorsese’s press conference, with Robert de Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio was great. Alongside them are Indigenous actress Lily Gladstone and Osage Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear. While the mythical duo of actors should have taken all the light, many questions were asked about the community at the heart of the film, which experienced a terrible tragedy a century ago. Mutual respect was palpable among all. This desperate desire of the filmmaker and the performers to confront the racist demons of the American past was transmitted to the assembly. “The foray into the history of the Osages and the ceremonies that we experienced with them in Oklahoma helped me not only as a director but as a human being”, specified Scorsese.

Rant: Thierry Frémaux on his bike

Last Friday evening, but we only learned of it the next day from the Journal The Parisian, an altercation between the general delegate of the festival Thierry Frémaux and a municipal policeman who asked him in vain to stop after riding on the sidewalk on an electric bike (his mode of transport) went wrong. The great Cannes manitou ended up getting carried away. A youtuber filmed the scene as the tone rose (two million views). The great Cannes manitou, made himself threatening. The other reminded him that he was not above the law. Both shook hands after the scene but it all seems very bad…

Odile Tremblay is the guest of the Cannes Film Festival.
