It’s (finally) official. Christophe Galtier has been appointed coach of Paris Saint-GermainTuesday, July 5. He succeeds Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino. The departure of the latter was recorded a little over an hour before the press conference for the induction of the new Parisian technician.
The arrival of Christophe Galtier was no longer in doubt since the signing of Lucien Favre at OGC Nice to succeed him on June 27. For his part, the Parisian president, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, said on June 21 that he hoped to find “quickly an agreement” with the Aiglons coach.
After his successful debut as head coach at Saint-Etienne (2009-2017), Christophe Galtier took on another dimension by joining Lille at the end of 2017. At Losc, the native of Marseille led his team to the title of champion of France 2021, ahead of PSG. Previously, he saved the Northerners from relegation in his first half-season.
Haloed by his Lille triumph, Galtier arrived in Nice in the summer of 2021 to allow the club, bought by Ineos, to play for the leading roles. The coach did not achieve the goal, settling for a fifth place in the league and a final in the Coupe de France (defeat against Nantes).
By joining PSG, Christophe Galtier is taking a new step in his coaching career. He takes the lead of a candidate for the final victory in the Champions League. He is the sixth technician to take the reins of the club since the takeover of PSG by the Qatar.
Galtier finds Luis Campos, appointed in early June as football adviser to Paris Saint-Germain. The Portuguese was the great architect of the northern workforce crowned champion of France in 2021.
