French coach Christophe Galtier signed up for two seasons with Paris Saint-Germain on Monday July 4, franceinfo learned from sources close to the club. He replaces Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino.

Christophe Galtier was on the bench for OGC Nice last season, finishing in 5th place in the Ligue 1 standings. At 55, he will lead the fourth club of his career, after Saint-Étienne, Lille and Nice.

The signing of Christophe Galtier for two years is anything but a surprise. Two weeks ago, an agreement in principle was reached between him and the capital club. Since the arrival of the Portuguese Luis Campos as sports adviser to PSG in early June, the name of the French coach has come up insistently. The two men know each other well for having worked together in Lille. The Galtier-Campos duo first saved LOSC from relegation, before taking the Lille club to the title of champion of France during the 2020-2021 season.

Christophe Galtier becomes the 3rd Frenchman since 2011 and the takeover of the club by Qatar to sit on the bench of the capital club after Antoine Kombouaré, quickly landed in December 2011, and Laurent Blanc (2014-16). Born in Marseille, he knows the French championship well, having played there most of his fourteen years as a professional player. Christophe Galtier began his coaching career as an assistant at Olympique de Marseille, Lyon and Saint-Étienne, before moving to Les Verts as head coach for 8 years, before leaving for four seasons in Lille and finally in Lille.

Christophe Galtier will be inducted on Tuesday July 5 at 2 p.m. at a press conference in the auditorium of the Parc de Princes reserved for special occasions, in the presence of Parisian President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. He will then lead his first training, behind closed doors at Camp des Loges in Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

The Parisians’ preparation for the 2022-2023 season will begin with a friendly match against Quevilly-Rouen (L2) on July 15. The Parisians will then tour Japan from July 16. The first official match will be the Champions Trophy against Nantes on July 31 in Tel Aviv.
