Before taking the helm of the organization defending press freedom, Christophe Deloire had directed the CFJ, a recognized journalism school, from 2008 to 2012. He had also worked for “Le Point”, Arte and TF1.

Christophe Deloire, director general of Reporters Without Borders (RSF), died on Saturday June 8, at the age of 53, franceinfo learned from his family. He succumbed to “a dazzling cancer”, writes RSF in a press release. Christophe Deloire had held his position there since 2012 and “transformed the association (…) into a world champion for the defense of journalism, for twelve years”, greets RSF. The journalist had been hospitalized in Paris for several weeks.
“Christophe Deloire had journalism at his heart. For freedom of information and democratic debate, this free spirit fought, without borders, without restreacted Emmanuel Macron on X. His universal fight remains ours.”
“Deep sadness”reacted on X Pierre Haski, the president of the board of directors of RSF. “Christophe Deloire had put all his energy into defending the freedom to inform at a time of great danger,” he added. “Faced with the repression of journalists in Algeria or Bolloré’s raid on The JDDI was able to appreciate the constancy of this defender of a free press”wrote on X Dominique Sopo, president of SOS Racisme.
