Christophe Barbier launches a “combat” newspaper

After having redeemed She, Female version, TV 7 Days Where Marianne, successfully launched S, Sophie Davant’s magazine, Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky is about to edit Maverick, a weekly whose first issue will be released on November 17. This is Christophe Barbier, former editor-in-chief of The Express, who will co-lead the editorial staff

In the meantime, a pre-subscription campaign is being set up on Facebook. “We reached in four to five days the objective we had set for three weeks, it starts very strongly, it’s very encouraging! The French are waiting for us”, rejoices Christophe Barbier, the editorial director of the title, who has surrounded himself with feathers like Raphaël Enthoven, Caroline Fourest, Rachel Kahn or the former leader of Force Ouvrière Jean-Claude Mailly.

Funny name for this magazine: it evokes both a fighter and a newspaper of the Resistance. “We are not Resistance fighters under the Occupation, nevertheless the situation is worrying, explains Christophe Barbier. We see a radicalization of political ideas, the word is to the extremes and to all the populists. A lot of people fight them but everyone is in their corner, in a haphazard way. They had to be brought together. All these snipers will have their home, their newspaper: against all obscurantism and political extremism. “

“We do not agree with Sandrine Rousseau, we do not agree with Eric Zemmour, Le Pen or Mélenchon and we will fight them idea by idea.”

The newspaper will give pride of place to nuance and explanation, assures Christophe Barbier. Without falling for all that into naive centrism. “Just because you’re moderate doesn’t mean you have to be soft”, he concludes.
