Christmas trees sold at Home Depot recalled for fire hazard

(Ottawa) The Home Depot chain is recalling some of its pre-lit artificial Christmas trees because they could pose a fire hazard.

Health Canada has warned consumers in a news release that they should stop using the Home Decorators Collection 2.3-metre Grand Duchess Balsam Fir artificial Christmas tree, pre-lit with 5,000 color-changing lights.

The federal agency says the Christmas tree’s control panel or electrical plug could overheat, posing a burn or fire hazard.

Home Depot says 883 trees were sold in Canada, but no incidents or injuries were reported as of Tuesday.

The affected trees were sold in October and November this year.

Consumers should return them to a Home Depot store to receive a full refund.

The model number of the affected shafts is 23LE61001 and the item number is 1 001 803 629.
