(New York) A man who allegedly set fire to a 15-meter Christmas tree outside Fox News headquarters in central Manhattan was charged with arson on Wednesday, police said.
The tree that sat in front of the News Corp building – where Fox News is installed, among others, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post – caught fire after midnight, according to the police.
Fox reporter Shannon Bream broke the blaze to Fox listeners as firefighters worked to put it out.
“This is Fox Square in New York, outside of Fox headquarters,” said Mr.me Bream. It seems that our gigantic Christmas tree there, a few minutes ago, has completely ignited. ”
Firefighters extinguished the flames and no injuries are reported.
A 49-year-old man, described by police as homeless, has been arrested and charged with criminal mischief, arson and trespassing.
The man had a lighter in his possession, police said.
The tree had been illuminated during a special Sunday broadcast.
