A plethora of snow, ever more sparkling garlands, love stories of which we already know the outcome… Unabated, Christmas films are present every year to entertain us. And even if the method is often the same, the recipe has never failed in its success.
Christmas movies aren’t very surprising, and that’s why we love them. From romantic comedy to superhero flick, there are hundreds of them for throw / couch fireside nights. These reassuring films come from all countries and there are some for all tastes and ages. The common point between Santa Clause is garbage and Mom I missed the plane is not immediately obvious but… these are two Christmas films. Whether they make us laugh or cry, their predetermined appearance is so heartwarming that even the most reluctant end up lying on the couch.
You might wonder how the writers always come up with new stories with the same ingredients. Nadège Loiseau, director of Christmas Flow on Netflix, is well placed to decipher the recurring elements: “There have to be two heroes who are not necessarily made to get along, (…) the families around, and we have daily life that comes in there and complicates everything a bit. We have snow, we have garlands, and then on that a lot of love! “ And while Christmas movies may seem recent, they date back to a much longer time than one might imagine.
