Christmas in Oloron-Sainte-Marie, without an ice rink and fewer lights

This Christmas will be more sober than the previous ones in Oloron-Sainte-Marie in a period of energy sobriety. A plan was presented this week by the town hall. These are announcements in a context where the government asks everyone to be reasonable in terms of energy consumption (the famous “I lower, I turn off, I shift“). The measures will concern the animations and especially the illuminations for the end of year celebrations.

The illuminations will be less numerous and will be on for less time at night. In Oloron-Sainte-Marie, roundabouts and bridges are no longer illuminated by these Christmas decorations unlike in previous years. On the other hand, the town hall has chosen to focus on the Sainte-Marie, Sainte-Croix, Notre-Dame and the Public Garden which should be “the epicenter of Christmas“.

These efforts should save €10,000. It is also time saved in terms of installation. Finally, there will be no skating rink this winter, which had been a tradition for 15 years. This represented a total expenditure of approximately €60,000. The city recalls that electricity prices have been multiplied by four. This year the ice rink will therefore be replaced by other activities.

My France: Energy savings

Generalized increase in the cost of living, risk of shortage of electricity or gas, extreme climatic phenomena: these crises upset our daily lives, transform our lifestyles, push us to draw the contours of new horizons. To meet these challenges, France Bleu and Make.org are launching a major citizen consultation around energy savings. Take a stand on these solutions & propose your own!
