Quebecers plan to spend an average of $ 565 on their Christmas gifts, a budget 11% larger than last year, according to a Hellosafe.ca study, released on Tuesday.
However, this budget is still 25% lower than the Canadian average of $ 792 for Christmas gifts.
“2021 will definitely not be the year of the big return to green of consumption indicators in Canada. Fortunately, the budget of Canadians for gifts does not seem to have suffered from this degraded health context. So let’s hope that traders experience a real upturn this year for Christmas, failing to see the specter of Covid receding, ”shared Antoine Fruchard, chief director of Hellosafe.ca.
A sign that people will gather as families over the holidays, clothing will take the top spot in the ranking of Canadians’ spending on Christmas, according to the Retail Council of Canada. Food, alcohol, candy and sweets come second.
