Christmas break | Open or closed?

To mark the Christmas festivities, here is an overview of the establishments that will be open or closed on December 24 and 25.


December 24

On New Year’s Eve, most businesses, grocery stores and pharmacies are open, as are shopping centers and restaurants. SAQ and SQDC branches also remain open.

Public transportation networks generally operate according to their regular schedule. In Montreal, the opening hours of cultural and sports facilities such as libraries may vary depending on the boroughs.

The Municipal Court and most municipal offices are closing their doors.

December 25th

Almost everything is closed. Only essential businesses remain open, such as pharmacies, convenience stores, gas stations and some food centers. Big box grocery stores are closing their doors.

The Société des transports de Montréal network operates according to the statutory holiday schedule. Under federal law, all banks are closed on December 25 and 26.

Government offices are also closed.

December 26

Shops and shopping centers open their doors from 1 p.m. Post offices, ecocenters and permit counters remain closed.
