The tone is diplomatic but the message direct. The President of the Court of Auditors, Pierre Moscovici, asked urgently, Friday February 11, to Christiane Taubira’s campaign manager, Axel Urgin, to be on leave from his position at the Court. He judges “inconceivable” that the counselor combines responsibilities within this institution and with the candidate.

In a letter, Pierre Moscovici reminds the support of the former Minister of Justice that he has already been asked to “take the statutory provisions provided for in this case” and that he has “refuse” to comply with it. He pointed out that two colleagues from the institution, “under comparable conditions”asked their “placement on availability for personal convenience, in accordance with a constant tradition of the Court, reflected in its code of ethics”.

“It would be inconceivable for you to remain in a different situation, on the implausible pretext that Ms. Taubira would not be a candidate to date”adds Pierre Moscovici, calling on Axel Urgin, 61, to “conform to our tradition without delay”.

Contacted, Axel Urgin, also socialist deputy to the mayor of Créteil, assured that he would send Pierre Moscovici an answer on Monday. “strictly compliant” to “existing right” and the Court’s code of ethics. According to this charter, people who “have responsibilities in an official campaign team, are invited to ask to be placed on standby for the duration of the official campaign”.

Senior civil servant Sarah Knafo, “strategy director” of Eric Zemmour, of whom she is also the companion, has placed herself on leave from the Court. Another magistrate of the Court had withdrawn from this institution the time of the primary of the right, where she worked with a candidate.
