End of suspense on the left. Christiane Taubira came first in the Popular Primary, Sunday, January 30, with a “much more mention”. “She got more upvotes and fewer downvotes than other voters.”, explained the organizers of the online vote. Christiane Taubira is ahead of Yannick Jadot (2nd), Jean-Luc Mélenchon (3rd), Pierre Larrouturou (4th), Anne Hidalgo (5th) and Charlotte Marchandise (6th) and Anna Agueb-Porterie (7th).
This citizens’ initiative aimed to designate a champion capable of bringing together the entire left to fight for the presidential election and push the door to the second round. But the popular Primary suffered to see three of its candidates – the socialist Anne Hidalgo, the ecologist Yannick Jadot and the Insoumis Jean-Luc Mélenchon, of France insoumise – refuse to recognize the legitimacy and the result of the vote.
When the votes closed on Sunday at 5 p.m., 392,738 voters had been registered out of the 467,000 registered, according to the organizers. That is a participation rate of 84.1%.
