After having recently shone in “What have we all done to God” by Philippe de Chauveron or in “Irréductible” by Jérôme Commandeur, Christian Clavier is back this year at the cinema with the film “Les Vengeances of Maître Poutifard by director Pierre-François Martin-Laval.
In this feature film which is released in theaters this Wednesday, June 28, 2023, the 71-year-old actor plays the role of Maître Poutifard, a teacher who, after having practiced for 37 years in the same school, takes his well-deserved retirement. While still living with his mother, he decides to take his revenge on the students who have made him suffer so much by making fun of him for decades. He thus focuses on four students whom he holds responsible for the failure of his only love story which did not work…
A few hours before the release of this comedy, critics fuse on social networks and in the media. First thing that does not pass in public opinion, the fact that Isabelle Nanty who is 61 years old, embodies the mother of Christian Clavier… who is 71 years old in real life. The criticism erected by our colleagues from Parisian is therefore not kind to the actor because here is what we can read: “This portrait of a psychopathic and paranoid teacher, an unhealthy and abject character, sometimes makes you nauseous. Of course, you can laugh at everything, but this “comedy” uses less than brilliant strings, such as scatology or cruelty to animals. . Yuck!”.
The media deplores the presence of caricatural characters, the clichés in the dialogues, the considerable lack of humor and the end of the film which “confronts the odious hero with a child suffering from a serious illness and who thus aims to soften this detestable portrait, is hardly misleading, as it seems constructed as an attempt to make up for the abominations previously inflicted on the viewer. It remains to be seen whether the success will be there despite everything that the spectators will move in the dark rooms…
