Chris (ex Christine and the Queens) nominated in the “male artist” category for the first time since coming out as trans

It’s a small victory against transphobia. While the Purecharts Awards are back in 2024 after having brought together no less than 300,000 votes during the previous edition, Chris (formerly Christine and the Queen) was nominated in one of the categories.

Alongside Florent Pagny, David Guetta, Vianney and Gazo, the artist is in the “French-speaking male artist of the year” category. A classification in accordance with the identity of the artist. And for good reason, in a video posted on TikTok in August 2023, the latter came out as trans.

“I have been gendering myself as masculine for a year now, a little more officially in my family and in my private life in recent months. It’s a fairly long process and I mention all of this here because, limit it, even if it means trolling me , troll me with the real attacks […] I’m not in marketing, I’m not in smooth image, I’m not in lying, I’m an artist”, he revealed.

Chris, annoyed at being misgendered again

Confidences which unfortunately do not prevent Chris from being regularly misgendered. As proof, last Junethe singer took the floor to let it be known that he was saddened by the transphobia of which he was a victim.

“In truth, there’s one thing that strikes me though, it’s all the people who continue to call me ‘she’. It actually hurts me”he explained to the camera, his throat tight.

“My socializing is difficult because you call me ‘she’ every five minutes and it hurts my feelings. […] My socializing is difficult because you call me ‘she’ every five minutes and it hurts me. Sometimes I want to tell you to go fuck yourself.” concluded Chris via a video shared on his social networks.
