President Xi Jinping held talks with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on Wednesday (May 25) after new press revelations about the crackdown in Xinjiang (North West)state television CCTV reported.
China is accused by Washington of condoning “at the highest level” abuses against the Muslim minority of the Uyghurs, when Michelle Bachelet begins a visit to Xinjiang, where Beijing is accused of carrying out a repression.
A consortium of fourteen foreign media on Tuesday published documents it says came from the hacking of Xinjiang police computers. Among them are thousands of photographs presented as having been taken in “detention camps” and showing the faces of many “detainees”including women, minors and the elderly.
“Each country has a different situation” and therefore, “has a development path for human rights which must suit its national conditions”has President Xi told his host during a videoconference, according to remarks reported by CCTV.
