China called on all parties for calm and restraint as North Korea fired more than 200 artillery shells near two South Korean islands on Friday (January 5).

Friday January 5, at Seoul station, Koreans discovered on the news a new escalation of violence at their border. Between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., North Korea fired more than 200 artillery shells into the Yellow Sea, near two islands belonging to South Korea. An order to take shelter was given even though no casualties or damage were reported. In response, Seoul conducted an ammunition firing exercise real on one of the targeted islands.

Kim Jong-un moves closer to conflict

If the shells fired by Pyongyang are fallen on the North Korean side, it is also proof that Kim Jong-un approaches the conflict. Photos released the same day show him visiting a missile launcher factory with her girl, thedrawing perfect from the moment when he asked them to prepare militarily in view of a confrontation with the enemy at all times. China called forappeasement, while Pyongyang and Seoul ended in November 2023 an agreement which aimed to prevent border military incidents.
