During this meeting, the American president was to call on Mr. Xi to distance himself from Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose troops invaded Ukraine on February 24.
Since that date, Beijing has refrained from condemning the Russian invasion and has blamed NATO for the conflict.
According to a brief report broadcast by the public broadcaster CCTV, the Chinese president considered that “relations between states cannot go as far as armed confrontation”.
