A Chinese influencer has died after taking an excessive amount of alcohol live on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.
The 34-year-old influencer, known as “Sānqiān gē” (or “Brother Three Thousand”), took part in an internet competition on May 16 where he ended up drinking at least seven bottles of baijiu – a Chinese spirit containing between 30 and 60% alcohol – according to the Shangyou News, as reported by the BBC.

“When his family found him, he was already gone. He didn’t even have a chance to receive emergency treatment,” a man named Mr. Zhao reportedly told Chinese media.
“Brother Three Thousand” had already been banned from Douyin in the past for drinking during a live broadcast. The latter had, however, overridden this by creating a new account.
His death sparked backlash in the Asian country, prompting people to demand tougher regulation of the drug industry. live streamwhich is booming.
