(OTTAWA) China is accused of having “regularly” intercepted a Canadian military plane whose mission is to enforce United Nations sanctions against North Korea.
According to the Department of National Defence, the Canadian aircraft was intercepted several times between September and November.
The maritime patrol aircraft involved is a CP-140 Aurora which is based in Okinawa, Japan.
The ministry’s spokesman, Daniel Le Bouthillier, did not provide more details on these interceptions, nor their exact number.
However, during a speech in Halifax earlier this month, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin called China’s military activities “dangerous”.
He also pointed out that interceptions of American, Canadian and other allied aircraft were on the rise over the South and East China Seas.
