He could already see himself at the top of the bill and he was right! With 180 million records sold worldwide, more than 80 years of career and some 1,300 songs to his credit, Charles Aznavour is a legend of French song. His death on October 1, 2018, at the age of 94, was therefore a shock. But he sticks in people’s minds and is always honored. As proof, France 3 is dedicating a special evening to him this Friday, December 10, 2021, baptized Let’s sing Aznavour.
It is Dany Brillant, one of the unconditional fans of Charles Aznavour, who officiates as master of ceremonies. An obvious choice since he considered the artist to be his spiritual father. The singer has released two albums of covers of songs by his idol. He was surrounded by a shower of artists for the occasion to cover the singer’s greatest hits on the Folies Bergère stage, solo or in duo. They will share their memories, their emotions and their happiness. Viewers of France 3 will also discover rare archive images and some unpublished, in order to retrace his personal and artistic life.
Chimène Badi made the show on stage, sublime in leather pants, with a top containing a little lace and in a jacket of the same color. Radiant and still slimmer, she once again put forward her powerful voice. Anggun, equally divine all dressed in black, and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, in black pants and blue silk top, also accepted Dany Brillant’s invitation. Among the female guests were also Sheila and Tina Rose.
On the men’s side, we can find Sanseverino, Ben Mazué, Chico and the Gypsies, Julien Clerc, Erik Berchot, Grand Corps Malade, Salvatore Adamo, Pascal Obispo, Bénabar, Patrick Bruel, Vincent Niclo, Laurent Gerra, Thomas Dutronc. Asked by Leisure TV, the latter confided that he would sing the title The Two Guitars, her “favorite song“.”Charles invited me to sing a duet on one of his albums. It was a bit complicated because I took a long time to get the right models with the right melody. But everything went well. The next day, I felt dizzy when I realized that it was the great Charles Aznavour, the one who knew everyone and made masterpieces. It was pretty dizzying. It was the next day, after seeing it, that I didn’t sleep all night. I had insomnia“, added the son of Françoise Hardy and Jacques Dutronc.
For his part, Dany Brillant confided to Leisure TV that he had discovered Charles Aznavour at the age of 12. He accompanied his mother to the Olympia, his father being ill and therefore unable to go there as planned. And he “took a slap.” A few years later, he had the honor of meeting him. “It was at the Montreux festival in 1997. I had been singing for a few years, I participated in a tribute to Charles Trenet who was one of the masters of Charles Aznavour. The latter was in the room and he kindly came to greet me backstage. He was a generous person, who was very interested in young talents, of all musical styles. He has always been kind to me. I saw him again in his Parisian offices, we talked a lot. He advised me, especially on the texts. (…) Subsequently, he took me alongside him in great events, such as a concert in Armenia in 2006. But what I found touching was that he always wrote me a little note. to apologize, when he couldn’t come to my concerts“, he explained. Valuable memories.
