Charlotte Verbiest lives in the heart of the forest, in the Laurentians. When she celebrated her son’s first birthday, with a theme of jungle animals, she suddenly found it contradictory that lions and monkeys were being honored, rather than the fauna and flora of our country. .

“I thought it would be so much fun to have a shop that better reflects the nature here: mushrooms, deer, hedgehogs, insects… That’s how the idea of my shop in line was born”, says the one who opened her De Hut site shortly after, which will blow out its first candle very soon, almost at the same time as her son will blow out two.

She has also noticed the “champi madness”, as she says herself. In her shop, the accessories she sells on this theme – handles, posters and, of course, the famous lamps – are very popular. Because at the same time that customers were discovering mushrooms, companies were expanding their offer, she noted.

Obviously, consumers have jumped on the nature trend a lot here. But so are brands, both small and large. There is notably Canadian Tire which has the famous mushroom chair that everyone wants to have.

The “nature” theme, especially mushrooms, also takes up a lot of space in her children’s rooms.

For her part, Charlotte Dussault also designed her little Théodore’s room around the forest.

I always told myself that there wouldn’t be a theme for my baby’s room, because I didn’t like rooms that were too themed. I just wanted something beautiful. But when I came across the Petit Cocon mushroom lamp, I told myself that I was going to start from there.

Based on this lamp, found in this children’s store in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Charlotte had a custom-made mobile made of small mushrooms, but also hedgehogs, rabbits, squirrels… Also provided is a stackable mushroom-shaped tower, which sits above the changing table. Then she painted the handles herself red with small white dots. A few wooden animal figurines complete the decor.

The “mushroom” theme is present, but still subtle: beyond a few more obvious pieces, the other touches serve mainly as accents to complete the decoration.

“The bedroom is not 100% natural. But all my little accents will seek this theme, says Charlotte Dussault. I tried to make a nice peaceful setting. »

Driven by social networks

Dominik Cadieux, founder of the Le Petit Cocon boutique, has also noticed the enthusiasm for decorative elements from nature. And has been for years! “We agree, it comes from Instagram, she says immediately. Me, I’ve been selling items with mushrooms for three or four years. It started with the Egmont lamps, which come from France. »

These lamps have been around for so long that they are now available in a variety of colors. This year, a new shade is offered, olive green, while last year it was terracotta.

Dominik Cadieux loves mushrooms, beyond fashion. “I consider it a classic, just like a little rabbit, a rainbow or flowers. It’s really a childish thing, magic, which is a bit of an enchanted forest, ”she illustrates.
