Children’s immunization sprint begins

Quebec is kicking off its vast vaccination operation for 5 to 11 year olds, which will begin Wednesday in vaccination centers and next week in schools. The government wants to have inoculated as many young people as possible to see the impact during the holidays.

“This is an important day that will change the COVID situation in Quebec,” Premier François Legault said during a press briefing in Quebec on Tuesday.

About 650,000 young people are affected by this operation, which is “safe” across the board, assured Mr. Legault.

The health authorities have already decided on a two-way system to vaccinate young people. They can make an appointment on Clic Santé for a time slot at school or at the vaccination center. It is the parents who will decide whether or not their children can receive the vaccine. In Quebec, parental consent is required before the age of 14.

Tuesday, the appointment setting had already taken off on Clic santé.

The success of the vaccination of 5 to 11 year olds could have significant repercussions on the way out of the Quebec crisis. During his opening speech, the Prime Minister said that once this operation is over, the state of health emergency would fall.
At a press briefing in early November, the Quebec director of the vaccination strategy, Daniel Paré, surprised himself dreaming of a first dose for all children before Christmas.

Further details will follow.
