Many children with disabilities are still poorly educated or not at all. A study even indicates that no less than 18% of them have no hours of schooling per week.

430,000 students with disabilities will return to school in 2022. A study conducted by Unapei (National Union of Associations of Parents, People with Mental Disabilities and their Friends) on nearly 8,000 children reveals that one in two students will have less than 6 hours of lessons per week. In detail, 18% of the students concerned will have no lesson time per week, 33% will have between 0 and 6 hours per week. 22% will have between 6 and 12 hours, while the remaining 27% will be able to attend more than 12 hours of weekly lessons.

Luc Gateau, president of Unapei, considers the situation unacceptable and regrets that these students are “the invisible, the forgotten back to school“. A particularly restrictive lack of schooling for the parents of the children concerned. Some signs are nevertheless encouraging, since they are 19% more than 5 years ago to be able to return to school. Their follow-up remains however failing .
