About one in seven children under the age of ten have consulted an ENT doctor because of tinnitus. Anthony Jolly explains the causes of this figure, Thursday, March 9.
National Hearing Day is Thursday, March 9. This year, it is centered on children, since the finding among children under 10 is alarming. “Among children under 10, 1.3 million children have already consulted an ENT doctor for ringing in the ears, tinnitus. That’s about 1 in 7 children”, explains Anthony Jolly, present on the set of 12/13. Of those who consulted, at least 44% suffered from hearing loss.
irreversible hearing loss
The daily use of earphones and headphones is in question. “40% of parents say their child under 10 listens to music or videos every day for between one and four hours”, continues the journalist. Each person has hearing capital and in the event of hearing loss, it is irreversible. Indeed, exposure to noise damages the stereocilia, which are used to transform the sounds that reach the eardrum into sounds perceived by the brain. “Our body does not know how to regenerate them so let’s preserve them as much as possible!”concludes Anthony Jolly.
