Children unknowingly found a grenade on the evening of Friday August 13 on a beach in Vaux-sur-Mer (Charente-Maritime), forcing the deminers to intervene, France Bleu La Rochelle reports this Saturday. There were no injuries.

The children were playing on this beach when they came across this rather dilapidated device, without knowing what it was. They then started having fun with the object. It was when he started to smoke that the emergency services were called. A security perimeter was set up and the deminers of La Rochelle intervened.

It was actually a phosphorus grenade. “It did not look like a grenade as one imagines”, explains the mayor of Vaux-sur-Mer, Patrice Libelli, to France Bleu. The intervention of the deminers lasted a little more than an hour, around 8 p.m. A restaurant located on the beach, La Maison blanche, even had to be evacuated. “Everyone waited outside for the deminers to do their job,” continues the mayor.
