How did the children experience the death of Nahel following the shooting of a policeman, and the riots that followed? Several students testify and explain that they were worried during the riots, some having even lost sleep.
On television or in real life, many children have seen the images of the riots following the death of young Nahel in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine). “I’m afraid for me, because it hurt my heart, and my family too. I was sad, a little. […] I could not sleep“, says a girl. “Me, I was worried, because my grandparents live in Nanterre […] and there was a small fire right next to their apartment“, adds a boy.
Nahel’s death challenges the children
In class, the following days, the students were still in shock. “CM2 teachers have proven the need to discuss this subject with their students. And the students really needed it“, explains Olivier Flipo, director of schools. Many children also do not understand the death of Nahel, killed by the shooting of a policeman. “Maybe he should have shot the tires, something like that“, regrets one of them.
