Childcare services: parents are satisfied, but want improvements

The parents of the vast majority of children who attend daycare say they are satisfied with the services offered, but want several changes to improve them, according to a survey released by the Institut de la statistique du Québec (ISQ) on Tuesday.

On a scale of 0 to 10, 88% of Quebecers surveyed expressed a level of satisfaction between 8 and 10, we can read in the ISQ report on the accessibility and use of childcare services in 2021.

Among the main improvements desired by the parents of children attending a daycare service, we find in particular a more affordable rate (12%), fewer staff changes (9%), more educational activities (9%) and a open all year round, without interruption (7%).

Despite this, finding a place in daycare remains difficult. Among the children whose parents looked for a first childcare service, 47% found their search “quite difficult” or “very difficult”.

The ISQ survey also reveals that the majority of children who have used a childcare service have attended either a CPE (35%), an unsubsidized daycare (20%), a subsidized home environment (18%) or a subsidized daycare (16%).

The survey was conducted among the parents of 13,138 children.
