“Childcare rates in France are increasing by 4.21% for childminders and 3.75% for home carers”notes the 2024 barometer of the Yoopies platform, published on Thursday, August 29. According to the home services platform, the average hourly rate for a babysitter is 10.50 euros (compared to 10.12 euros last year and 9.31 euros in 2020) and for childminders, it reaches 3.96 euros this year (compared to 3.80 euros in 2023 and 3.59 euros in 2020).

These rates vary depending on the territories of France. Concerning childminders, the cost is highest in Corsica (4.86 euros per hour and per child, up 8.97% over one year), followed by the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (4.57 euros) and Île-de-France (4.38 euros). Conversely, the lowest rates for childminders are in Normandy (3.67 euros), Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (3.72 euros) or Pays de la Loire (3.73 euros).

For home care, the regions with the highest rates are Île-de-France (10.64 euros per hour per child), Brittany and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (10.62 euros). The least expensive rates are in Hauts-de-France (10.10 euros), Grand Est (10.20 euros) and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (10.28 euros, which nevertheless has the highest increase, with +6.53% over one year).

This barometer, which is based in particular on data from Urssaf, explains this increase in prices by “persistent inflation” And “the sharp increase in demand for qualified childcare services due to the return to face-to-face work and the increased need for flexibility.” The study also mentions “the revaluation of service professions planned within the framework of the 2023-2057 Management Objectives Convention” in order to improve “the attractiveness of early childhood professions”.
