The organization’s Board of Directors “unanimously took the decision to sever all ties between Mr. Dupuis,” said its president, Patrick Harrop, following the report by The Press published on Saturday.
His status as an honorary member was also withdrawn.
“We learned the news with dismay and amazement, along with the other readers of The Press this morning,” Mr. Harrop wrote.
Last October, Robin Dupuis pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of child pornography. He was sentenced to eight months in prison.
The Montreal artist was the general manager and one of the co-founders of the center Perte-de-signal, which is dedicated to promoting digital and video art. He was also a lecturer at the School of Visual and Media Arts at UQAM for more than 15 years.
“Perte-de-signal was never made aware of the charges against Mr. Dupuis and his guilty plea last October,” assured Mr. Harrop.
“We have always been at the forefront of putting in place policies against harassment, violence, and discrimination, and we are wholeheartedly in support of the victims of Mr. Dupuis’ actions,” he said. he continued.
According to defense counsel, Mr.e René Labrosse, Robin Dupuis created “avatars” on a “site specializing in the field”. The Crown prosecutor, Mr.e Jérôme Laflamme cited Robin Dupuis’ “modus operandi” as an “aggravating factor”.
“He creates several profiles on the application, he feeds and arouses discussions and the transmission of messages, files, through the people who had this preference [sexuelle] “, he explained.
