Child died of serious injuries | Daycare manager charged with second-degree murder

Tomy Carranza Ladry, the manager of a family daycare service in L’Assomption where an 18-month-old child was found seriously injured before succumbing to his injuries on Tuesday, has officially been charged with second-degree murder.

Huddled under a blanket, the 34-year-old burst into tears when his name was called during his online appearance. His case was postponed until next Thursday at the Joliette courthouse. He will remain detained at least until then.

Since she was a minor at the time of the events, her victim is only identified by her initials in the denunciation presented on Saturday, but the document indicates that the toddler was barely 18 months old.

Tomy Carranza Ladry was arrested by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) yesterday barely three days after the start of the investigation carried out jointly by the Department of Investigation of Crimes Against the Person of the SQ in collaboration with the Police Department of L’Assomption/Saint-Sulpice.

Last Tuesday, a seriously injured toddler was found at the home daycare service he operated in the basement of a couple of friends, in L’Assomption. Tomy Carranza Ladry was also banned from having contact with this couple and another woman on Saturday.

Contacted the day after the toddler’s death, he was stingy with comments regarding the events that had occurred at his daycare. “This is a tragedy and at this moment, talking to you about it is very difficult,” he confided at the time.

The same day, the Ministry of Family confirmed the closure of the daycare service and the suspension of recognition of its manager. According to the Business Register, it had been in operation since May 2022.
