Chiefs win over Raiders with a large lead

(Kansas City) The Chiefs’ defense set the tone and the Kansas City squad served a 48-9 correction to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

In the first offensive play of the game, Chiefs defensive tackle Jarran Reed forced a fumble and the ball was picked up by teammate Mike Hughes. The latter traveled the remaining 23 yards to give the lead to his team.

During the game, the Chiefs’ defense also caused two more fumbles and intercepted the Raiders (6-7).

The Chiefs’ attack (9-4) was not to be outdone, scoring five touchdowns, three on the ground and two from the air. The Kansas City troop posted a sixth straight victory, keeping their grip on the top of the West Section of the American Association.

Patrick Mahomes completed 20 of his 24 passes for overhead gains of 258 yards. He threw two touchdown passes, to Darrel Williams and Josh Gordon. Tyreek Hill was his favorite target with four receptions for 76 yards.

Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire scored two running majors and Derrick Gore had one, but he was spectacular. Gore found a gap in the middle and he traveled 51 yards to give the Chiefs a 47-9 lead before the convert.

The Raiders conceded a second straight loss and stayed out of the playoff portrait in the American.

Jaguars 0 – Titans 20

The Tennessee Titans had four interceptions to shut out the Jacksonville Jaguars 20-0.

Rashaan Evans, Jayon Brown, Kristian Fulton and Buster Skrine intercepted a pass from rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who had not thrown more than one interception in a game since his first outing in the NFL.

The Titans (9-4) dominated the Jaguars’ offensive line, netting three sacks over Lawrence in addition to causing four penalties for holding and one for moving too quickly. All of the interceptions were the direct result of pressure on the quarterback.

The Jaguars (2-11) failed to get on the scoreboard for the fourth time in their history and for the first time since 2009.

The Jacksonville squad suffered a fifth straight loss, an eighth in a row in Nashville, a ninth in a row against an opponent from the South Section of the American Association and a 15th.^e immediately abroad.

Falcons 29 – Panthers 21

Matt Ryan threw a touchdown pass and for gains of 190 yards, guiding the Atlanta Falcons to a 29-21 victory over the Carolina Panthers.

Cordarrelle Patterson amassed 58 rushing yards and a major for the Falcons (6-7), who increased their record outside Mercedes-Benz Stadium to 6-2.

Mykal Walker intercepted a Panthers Cam Newton quarterback pass and returned the ball 66 yards to add a touchdown to the Falcons’ total.

Newton hit a 12-yard rushing touchdown but made two turnovers before being left out of the bench midway through the fourth quarter. The Panthers (5-8) have lost eight of their last 10 outings.

As the Panthers trailed 20-14 midway through the third quarter, Newton stumbled accepting the handover from his center. He wanted to hand the ball over to Chuba Hubbard, but instead dropped it.

The Falcons put the game out of reach moments later when Hayden Hurst caught a three-yard touchdown pass.

Saints 30 – Jets 9

Alvin Kamara had 120 rushing yards and one touchdown on his return to play and the New Orleans Saints topped the New York Jets by 30-9.

Taysom Hill added two rushing majors and amassed 175 aerial yards for the Saints (6-7), who ended a five-game losing streak, the longest under Sean Payton.

Brett Maher made three field goals for the Saints, who saw their defense muzzle rookie quarterback Zach Wilson and the Jets (3-10).

The Jets were eliminated from the playoff race for an 11^e year in a row, which equals the team’s longest famine (1970-80) and constitutes the longest active streak in the NFL.

Hill, who injured his right middle finger in the Saints’ last game, completed 15 of his 21 passes and carried the ball 11 times for gains of 73 yards.

Kamara, who had missed the last four games with a knee injury, completed 27 carries for her fifth career rushing performance over 100 yards.

Seahawks 33 – Texans 13

Russell Wilson threw two touchdown passes and for gains of 260 yards, leading the Seattle Seahawks to an easy 33-13 victory over the Houston Texans.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll got a 150^e career-in-season victory, a week after his side defeated the 49^ers San Francisco 30-23 for a second straight win.

Wilson threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett in the second quarter and joined Gerald Everett for a one-yard major in the fourth quarter.

Lockett had 142 receiving yards to bring his tally to 1,023 this season. He joins Football Hall of Fame member Steve Largent as the only players in Seahawks history to have three consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

Rashaad Penny had 137 rushing yards, a career-high, and two touchdowns. He landed the Seahawks’ first touchdown, on a 32-yard run in the first quarter, and his 47-yard run made it 33-13.

Rookie quarterback Davis Mills had a career-high 331 yards from the air to replace Tyrod Taylor, who was dropped off the bench by the Texans (2-11).

Browns 24 – Ravens 22

Baker Mayfield threw two touchdown passes and the Cleveland Browns stayed in the playoff race as the Baltimore Ravens tried to come back to win 24-22 on Sunday.

In better shape than he had shown in recent weeks, Mayfield threw a touchdown pass to Jarvis Landry and Austin Hooper to help the Browns (7-6) get their revenge against the Ravens (8-5 ).

Cleveland’s roster was helped by the ankle injury suffered by star quarterback Lamar Jackson. The latter suffered a sprained right ankle in the first game of the second quarter.

The former NFL MVP couldn’t put weight on his ankle, which is scary and worrying for the Ravens, who lead the North Division of the American Association. Tyler Huntley stepped in.

The Ravens missed out on the offensive explosiveness offered by Jackson, and Huntley spent much of the second half avoiding trouble.

He still kept the Baltimore squad in the game, turning the Browns’ 24-6 halftime lead into a narrow 24-22 lead. Huntley threw an eight-yard touchdown pass to Mark Andrews with only 77 seconds left.

The Ravens recovered the short kick but failed to convert a fourth down and six yards left when Browns cornerback Denzel Ward tackled wide receiver Rashod Bateman.

Ravens kicker Justin Tucker had field goals of 50, 42 and 55 yards.

The Browns took a 24-3 lead late in the first half when Myles Garrett netted a career first touchdown. He also set a team record for sacks in one season.

With the Ravens at their 20-line, Garrett got rid of tackle Alejandro Villanueva and lost the ball to Huntley. Garrett grabbed the ball and crossed the goal line.

Cowboys 27 – Washigton 20

Micah Parsons sacked two sacks against Taylor Heinicke and produced a fumble that was returned for a touchdown, allowing the Dallas Cowboys to defeat Washington Football Team 27-20 on Sunday.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy had promised to beat Washington and end their four-man winning streak.

The Cowboys led 24-0, then 27-8 before Heinicke was replaced by Kyle Allen. Allen led the charge on a 73-yard offensive streak, then enlisted the support of Cole Holcomb, who intercepted a pass and scored a major. Washington’s comeback ended in a fishtail when Allen dropped the ball with 2:24 left in the game.

The lead gained by the Cowboys is due to a great performance of their defense in the first half. The Dallas squad caused four turnovers and had five quarterback sacks.

Doran Armstrong picked up the ball Parsons had made available when he fumbled and ran 37 yards for the touchdown. Randy Gregory, who was taken off the injured list yesterday, intercepted a Heinicke pass and caused Allen to escape.

Armstrong and his compatriots celebrated his middle finger with many Cowboys fans in attendance at the game, which had a home-meeting vibe for the Texan team. The leaders in the Eastern section of the National Association were even entitled to custom benches on the sidelines.

McCarthy had said before the duel that “we’re going to win this game. I am confident of it ”. The victory seemed to slip out of the hands of his team late in the game, but did not fall into the hands of their rivals.

Prescott threw a touchdown pass to Amari Cooper and for gains of 211 yards. He was also the victim of two interceptions. Ezekiel Elliott ran 12 times for 45-yard gains, despite knee pain, which took the Cowboys (9-4) away from Washington (6-7) in the East.
