(Kansas City) Head coach Andy Reid declined to confirm Wednesday that the Kansas City Chiefs are trying to come to an agreement with Odell Beckham Jr. Moreover, he did not confirm the opposite either.
Beckham became a free agent on Tuesday following his acrimonious split from the Cleveland Browns. However, the Chiefs – who have in their ranks the star quarterback Patrick Mahomes – would be one of the teams with which he would like to evolve, according to rumors.
“It’s under (Brett) Veach. He watches everyone, “said Reid of the combative Chiefs general manager.”
“You know how he does things,” Reid added, speaking to reporters. I spent my time in a ‘bunker’ trying to do my job. I haven’t really spoken to him. ”
Such an association would make sense, however.
According to rumors circulating, Beckham wants to spend the rest of the season with a team that aspires to top honors. However, the Chiefs have reached the association final in the last three seasons and seem to regain strength in the Western section of the American Association after a difficult start to the campaign.
However, their offense still struggles to match the exploits of recent seasons, and Beckham could generate the momentum the Chiefs need.
The Chiefs have done a similar thing since the start of the season by signing wide receiver Josh Gordon to a contract after the NFL ended his suspension.
However, Gordon hasn’t had a big impact since his debut with the team in Week 5, and the Chiefs are ripping off with Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce as the only threats to long overhead games.
In the Chiefs’ victory over the Green Bay Packers last week, Mahomes accumulated just 166 passing yards, his career low in a game he finished.
“He is a very good football player who has achieved a lot of great things in this league,” Mahomes said of Beckham.
“But I’ll leave this in Veach’s hands.” He does a great job when it comes to adding quality players. He’s always looking to improve the team. ”
Beckham, an often controversial player, has caught just 17 passes for 232 yards in six games with the Browns this season. He didn’t score any touchdowns.
As his relationship with the organization deteriorated, Beckham demanded to be traded, a wish that never materialized.
The Browns finally released him even though they were going to have to pay him 4.25 million, according to the terms of his contract which had just been renegotiated.
