With the help of their friends, a hen and a rooster come to the rescue of their daughter who is trapped in a chicken nugget factory.
Like her mother Ginger (voiced by Thandiwe Newton in the original version) and her father Rocky (Zachary Levi), Molly (Bella Ramsay) dreams of freedom and adventure. Stuck on a green island with the gallinaceae having escaped from the vile Mrs. Tweedy (Miranda Richardson), who wanted to make chicken pies, the intrepid chicken runs away then crosses paths with the sassy Frizzle (Josie Sedgwick-Davies), who has fled her farmyard. And hop ! here they are caught by an employee of a chicken nugget factory.
Tasty sequel to Chicken Run (2000), delicious plasticine animated film by Peter Lord and Nick Park (father of the irresistible duo Wallace and Gromit), Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget in French version), by Sam Fell (co-director of ParaNorman), in no way betrays the original work. No doubt Karey Kirkpatrick, screenwriter of the first opus, ensured that his companions John O’Farrell, dialogue writer of Chicken Runand Rachel Tunnard, a newcomer to animated cinema, preserve its wild imagination and spicy humor.
Full of nods to Chicken Run, Dawn of the Nugget is based on a classic escape story, but rich in twists and turns, ingenious discoveries and enhanced with a tip towards the food industry. This time highlighting Ginger, whose mother’s heart is put to the test, the second part also brings back her friends Babs (Jane Horrocks), Mac (Lynn Ferguson) and Bunty (Imelda Staunton), with whom the brave hen will do it see all the colors of his sworn enemy.
While Lord and Park were inspired by The great Escape (1963), drama by John Sturges set during the Second World War, hence the dark aesthetic of the first part, Fell drew on the side of spy films like Mission: Impossible and James Bond of the 1960s. Thus in the soundtrack by Harry Gregson-Williams (Spy Gameby Tony Scott), we find some echoes of the emblematic themes of Lalo Schifrin and Monty Norman.
In settings evoking the dens of the villains Dr No and Blofeld, Sam Fell orchestrates pursuits as amusing as they are perilous during which his joyful inventiveness is displayed. With ample staging and fluid animation in vibrant colors, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget has everything to delight early fans and win over new ones.
